Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell (/ˈaɪlɪʃ/ EYE-lish; born December 18, 2001) is an American singer-songwriter and one of the most influential pop artists of the 2020s. Renowned for her genre-blending sound, understated production, and haunting vocal style, she has reshaped modern pop music alongside her brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas O’Connell.
Eilish first gained widespread attention in 2015 with her debut single “Ocean Eyes,” released on SoundCloud and written and produced by Finneas. The song’s viral success led to the release of her debut EP, Don’t Smile at Me (2017), which achieved commercial success across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Her debut studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019), debuted at number one on both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, becoming one of the year’s best-selling albums. Its lead single “Bad Guy” made history as the first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 by an artist born in the 21st century and later earned Diamond certification from the RIAA. In 2020, Eilish recorded the James Bond theme “No Time to Die,” which topped the UK Singles Chart and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2022.
Eilish’s second studio album, Happier Than Ever (2021), topped charts worldwide and produced several top-ten singles, including “My Future,” “Therefore I Am,” “Your Power,” and the title track. She continued her success by co-writing and performing “What Was I Made For?” for the film Barbie (2023), earning her a second Academy Award and another UK number-one single.
Her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft (2024), received widespread critical acclaim and spawned the hit singles “Lunch” and “Birds of a Feather,” the latter becoming her first number-one song on the Billboard Global 200.
