Ed Sheeran (born 17 February 1991) is an English singer-songwriter from Halifax, West Yorkshire, raised in Framlingham, Suffolk. He began writing music at age 11 and gained early attention with his 2011 independent EP No. 5 Collaborations Project, leading to a signing with Asylum Records.

His debut album + (Plus) (2011) topped the UK Albums Chart and featured the breakthrough hit “The A Team,” earning him Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. His second album × (Multiply) (2014) became one of the world’s best-selling albums, winning Album of the Year at the 2015 Brit Awards. The single “Thinking Out Loud” earned two Grammy Awards in 2016.

Sheeran reached new heights with ÷ (Divide) (2017), the best-selling album worldwide that year, spawning global hits including “Shape of You,” “Castle on the Hill,” and “Perfect.” The album broke multiple chart records, and his ÷ Tour became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.

Subsequent releases include No.6 Collaborations Project (2019), = (Equals) (2021), − (Subtract) (2023), Autumn Variations (2023), and Play (2025). He has sold over 200 million records worldwide, ranks among Spotify’s most-followed artists, and was named the UK’s Artist of the Decade for the 2010s by the Official Charts Company.

Ed Sheeran has also appeared in film, including Yesterday (2019), and was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2025.
